Rep. Burnough Selected as Southern Democrat Director of NCSL Women’s Legislative Network Executive Board

ATLANTA – State Representative Rhonda Burnough (D-Riverdale) was recently selected to serve as the Southern Democrat Director on the executive board of the Women’s Legislative Network of the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL). Rep. Burnough was officially selected to serve on this executive board during the network’s annual business meeting on Tuesday, August 2, 2022.

“I am proud to join this dynamic group as we guide, educate and empower women legislators across the country,” said Rep. Burnough. “Women currently represent only a third of legislatures across the country, yet we make up half of the country’s population. The Women’s Legislative Network of NCSL provides crucial support to women legislators, and I am looking forward to working with the network to grow our presence at each state capitol across the country.”

Rep. Burnough was selected to serve on the Women’s Legislative Network of NCSL 2022-2023 executive board, which is responsible for the ongoing administration and affairs of the network, maintaining a close working relationship with NCSL. As a regional director, Rep. Burnough is responsible for providing direction and adopting policies for the network, reviewing the bylaws and making recommendations for amendments at the annual meeting.

The Women’s Legislative Network of NCSL is a professional development organization that includes every female state legislator in the 50 states, United States territories and the District of Columbia. This organization’s mission is to promote the participation, empowerment and leadership of women legislators. The network began when female legislators gathered at NCSL meetings in the late 1970s and later became a core program of the NCSL Foundation for State Legislatures. The executive board includes more than a dozen women legislators and is tasked with remaining politically and geographically balanced.

NCSL is a bipartisan organization that serves legislators and staffs from across the nation. It provides research, technical assistance and opportunities for policymakers to exchange ideas on the most pressing state issues in addition to advocating for the interests of the states in the American federal system.
