Rep. Cannon Completes Council of State Governments Henry Toll Fellowship

ATLANTA – State Representative Park Cannon (D-Atlanta) recently completed the Council of State Governments (CSG) Henry Toll Fellowship, where she was recognized during a graduation ceremony and luncheon on December 7, 2019 in conjunction with the CSG National Conference in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Drawing participants from 33 states in 2019, the Henry Toll Fellowship is a national leadership development program for state government officials.

“It was an honor to stand beside State Representative Kim Schofield to represent Georgia on the graduation stage of the CSG Henry Toll Fellowship,” said Rep. Cannon. “It is my hope that other members of the Georgia House of Representatives will apply to this prestigious program, be accepted and then apply the leadership principles they learn in our own chamber.”

Each year, the Toll Fellowship selects up to 48 state officials from all three branches of state government to participate in the program at the CSG national headquarters in Lexington, Kentucky, where participants spend five days in a “leadership boot camp.” The program’s sessions are designed to stimulate personal assessment and growth, while providing networking and relationship-building opportunities.

“The CSG Henry Toll Fellowship is designed to be transformative experience,” said CSG Chief Communications Officer Kelley Arnold. “It’s an opportunity for participants to take a deep look at how they see themselves as public servants building skills that will advance them as leaders. Even better, they come away with a network of new relationships that will enrich their understanding of difficult policy issues and provide a continued resource for growth.”

Previous programs have included sessions on leadership personality assessment, media training, crisis management, appreciative inquiry and adaptive leadership. The program encourages participants to evaluate and adapt the way they interact with each other and the world around them.

The CSG is the only organization in the U.S. that serves all three branches of state government. CSG is a region-based forum that fosters the exchange of insights and ideas to help state officials shape public policy. Additionally, CSG offers regional, national and international opportunities to network, develop leaders, collaborate and create problem-solving partnerships.
