Rep. Cannon Honored by Atlanta City Council

ATLANTA – State Representative Park Cannon (D-Atlanta) was recently honored by the Atlanta City Council for being a “game changer” under the Gold Dome and for the LGBTQ community. In recognition of Pride Month, the Atlanta City Council presented Rep. Cannon with a proclamation at a proclamation ceremony on Monday, June 17, 2019.

“I am grateful to receive this proclamation from the Atlanta City Council, and it was an honor to be recognized alongside other members of the LGBTQ community who are working hard to make our state a more equitable and safe place for all Georgians to call home,” said Rep. Cannon. “As a state legislator and member of the LGBTQ community, my job is to listen and legislate on behalf of all of the citizens in House District 58, including those who feel unheard and underrepresented in Georgia. I am thankful for the support of the Atlanta City Council, and I will continue to fight for my constituents under the Gold Dome.”

The Atlanta City Council recognized Rep. Cannon for her legislative efforts to represent individuals who feel underrepresented, including women, African Americans and members of the LGBTQ community. She was also recognized for advocating for increasing equality in the state, especially among minority groups, as well as affordable housing, education and health care. Not only was Rep. Cannon honored for serving as a state legislator, she was also honored for her work with social justice nonprofits and women’s health clinics, where she advocates for women’s reproductive rights and access to public education.

At the proclamation ceremony, Rep. Cannon was recognized along with the following game changers within the LGBTQ community: Georgia Equality; Victory Institute; GLAAD; Atlanta Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce; Metro Atlanta Association of Professionals; Hero for Children, Inc.; Stonewall Bar Association of Georgia; In the Life, Inc.; the Gentlemen’s Foundation, Counter Narrative; Alvin Huntspon; Jerome Brooks; Atlanta Pride Committee; One Atlanta; UPS Foundation; Covenant House; AID Atlanta; Transcending Barriers; LaGender; Center for Civil and Human Rights LGBTQ Institute; Transformation Journeys Worldwide; and Trans Housing Atlanta Program.

 

Representative Park Cannon represents the citizens of District 58, which includes portions of Fulton County. She was elected to the House of Representatives in 2016 and currently serves on the Code Revision, Human Relations & Aging, Insurance and Small Business Development committees. She is a member of the Working Group on Creative Arts & Entertainment.
