ATLANTA – State Representative Carl Gilliard (D-Savannah), along with the Chatham County Gang Prevention and Intervention Commission, will hold a “Breaking the Silos” statewide conference on Thursday, September 10, 2026, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Southwest Chatham Library Auditorium in Savannah, Ga.
“We have a major problem of duplication, and we need to find out how we can help each other because we are stronger together,” said Rep. Gilliard. “Georgia has a problem, and the only way we’re going to solve it is by coming together. This is a vital opportunity for collaboration, resource sharing and strengthening Georgia’s collective response to gang issues.”
The conference seeks to unite leaders and stakeholders from across Georgia to address the ongoing challenge of gang violence and prevention efforts. The focus will be on sharing resources, identifying effective programs and fostering collaboration among communities.
Rep. Gilliard notes that the event will include presentations from the following: Georgia Department of Corrections; Office of the Attorney General’s Gang Prosecution Unit; Chatham County DA’s office; Dr. Keith Strickland, founder and CEO of Making the Transition; Kit Cummings, founder of Power of Peace; Aakeem Woodard, director of Juvenile Services, Fulton County DA’s office.
Rep. Gilliard encourages all municipalities and programs involved in prevention and intervention efforts to attend.
