“I am proud to join the National Distracted Driving Coalition as a voice for Georgians who have lost loved ones due to distracted driving,” said Rep. Carson. “Georgia’s Hands-Free Law has changed our culture and continues to be effective in preventing distracted driving accidents. I look forward to using our state law as an example and asset to the NDDC as we work curb distracted driving on a national level. In turn, this coalition will give Georgia better access to resources that can aid our state’s fight against distracted driving.”

The NDDC will be comprised of a diverse group of individuals from public and private sector organizations, law enforcement and non-profit programs. The coalition will seek to bring a holistic and novel approach to the fight against distracted driving. The NDDC’s mission is to promote innovative and collaborative approaches to create a culture of attentive drivers, as well as serve as a central clearing house for diverse stakeholders. Additionally, the coalition will work to accelerate national efforts to implement short and long-term interventions that will promote attentive driving and eliminate distracted driving fatalities and injuries. According to the NTSB, vehicle accidents have been rising in the U.S. since 2019 at an unprecedented pace.

At the launch event, the NDDC unveiled its “National Action Plan” and initial priorities to accelerate national efforts to curb distracted driving. The NDDC steering committee members were joined by families who have been affected by distracted driving tragedies.
