Rep. Chandler Announces Retirement from General Assembly

ATLANTA – State Representative Joyce Chandler (R-Grayson) today announced that she will not seek re-election to the Georgia House of Representatives. Rep. Chandler will retire at the end of her current term after serving six years in the Georgia General Assembly.

“After much prayerful consideration, I have decided not to seek re-election,” said Rep. Chandler. “This was a very difficult decision, but I am at peace with it. I want to spend more time with my husband and family, travel and volunteer. It has been a privilege and honor for me to serve the people of District 105. This experience has provided me the opportunity to come to know many wonderful people, assist my constituents with state matters and represent them in the Georgia House. Serving others is a very important aspect of who I am, and being a state representative has provided me numerous opportunities to serve my constituents, as well as others outside my district.”

During her time in the Georgia General Assembly, Rep. Chandler authored legislation to ensure homeschool students are eligible to receive the HOPE and Zell Miller Scholarships if they receive the required scores on standardized college admission tests.

Rep. Chandler holds a doctorate in education counseling from the University of Georgia, and she served as a school counselor for 31 years. Rep. Chandler has also served as the executive director of the Student Assistant Professionals Association of Georgia and the president of the Georgia School Counselors.

Representative Joyce Chandler represents the citizens of District 105, which includes portions of Gwinnett County. She was elected to the House of Representatives in 2012 and currently serves as Vice Chairmen of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Education. She also serves on the Education, Higher Education, Juvenile Justice and Regulated Industries committees.
