ATLANTA – State Representative Clint Crowe (R-Jackson) was recently appointed by Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington) to serve on the Streamlined Sales Tax Governing Board, which is a national organization that focuses on improving sales and use tax administration systems for all sellers and for all types of commerce at the state and local level. Rep. Crowe’s term on this national board will coincide with the 2023-2024 legislative term of the General Assembly.
“Being appointed to the Streamlined Sales Tax Governing Board is an honor and an opportunity to contribute to simplifying our state’s tax systems,” said Rep. Crowe. “This national initiative aligns with Georgia’s ongoing efforts to modernize tax processes and reduce compliance burdens for businesses and consumers alike. As we navigate the complexities of sales and use tax policies, I am committed to working toward solutions that are mindful to both businesses, consumers and state and local tax bodies.”
The Streamlined Sales Tax Governing Board originated in 2000 with the aim of addressing the complexities in state sales tax systems following U.S. Supreme Court cases that prevented states from taxing remote sellers without a physical presence.
The board created the Streamlined Sales and Use Tax Agreement, which seeks to simplify tax administration and reduce compliance burdens. The agreement focuses on state-level tax collection, uniform tax bases and definitions, electronic registration, simplified rates and sourcing rules, streamlined exemptions, as well as easier tax returns and remittances.
Currently, 24 states have implemented these simplification measures, covering more than 31 percent of the U.S. population, with more states considering adoption.
Representative Clint Crowe represents the citizens of District 118, which includes Butts County, as well as portions of Henry, Jasper and Putnam counties. He was elected to the House of Representatives in 2020 and currently serves as Vice Chairman of the Public Safety & Homeland Security and Ways & Means committees and Secretary of the Judiciary Non-Civil Committee. He also serves on the Banks & Banking, State Planning & Community Affairs and Technology and Infrastructure Innovation committees and serves as an Ex-Officio member of the Appropriations Committee.
