ATLANTA – State Representative Darlene Taylor (R-Thomasville) today announced that the city of Cairo was recently awarded a $1,189,645 Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (DWSRF) loan by the Georgia Environmental Finance Authority (GEFA) board of directors.
“We are grateful to GEFA for awarding this low interest loan to Cairo that includes a substantial principal forgiveness aspect,” said Rep. Taylor. “Water conservation is vitally important to the community and the region, and this loan will allow for the installation of technology to increase accurate water meter readings.”
The loan will finance the installation of an advanced meter infrastructure (AMI) system where approximately 3,300 meters will be retrofitted with new interface units and approximately 925 meters will be replaced with new radio read meters. This project will provide for accurate water meter data collection and reduce non-revenue water losses in the system.
Representative Darlene Taylor represents the citizens of District 173, which includes portions of Decatur, Grady, and Thomas counties. She was elected into the House of Representatives in 2010, and currently serves as the Vice Chairman on the Public Safety and Homeland Security Committee and the Secretary on the Governmental Affairs Committee. She also serves on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Health and the Agriculture & Consumer Affairs and Insurance committees.
