Rep. Jay Powell Attends Harvey J. Morey Road Dedication

ATLANTA – State Representative Jay Powell (R-Camilla) recently attended a road dedication ceremony for the Harvey J. Morey Memorial Highway in Baconton on Saturday, May 14, 2016. The road dedication honored the life of Mr. Morey and unveiled new signs for the Harvey J. Morey Memorial Highway.

“It was my privilege to attend the Harvey J. Morey Memorial Highway dedication,” said Rep. Powell. “Mr. Morey was a true patriot who understood the virtue of personal sacrifice for the greater good, and his legacy is one that will not soon be forgotten.”

House Resolution 1052 honors the memory of Harvey J. Morey by establishing a portion of State Route 93 in Baconton as the Harvey J. Morey Memorial Highway. A native of Mitchell County, Mr. Morey joined the U.S. Armed Forces during World War II. He was killed in action in July of 1944 in France, but his actions were recognized with a Purple Heart, Combat Infantryman Badge, American Campaign Medal, and World War II Victory Medal.
