Rep. David Knight Named Chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Higher Education

ATLANTA – The Georgia House of Representatives’ Committee on Assignments named State Representative David Knight (R-Griffin) as the Chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Higher Education.

“Supporting our traditional and technical higher education institutions is absolutely necessary to remaining the top state to do business, and I am committed to ensuring that Georgia’s best and brightest students remain in the state and have the necessary skills to join the workforce,” said Rep. Knight. “As a graduate of one of our state’s public universities, I also know firsthand how valuable an affordable education to jumpstarting a student’s future, and I look forward to ensuring our higher education resources and taxpayer dollars are deployed as effectively and efficiently this session while furthering student success and lowering out-of-pocket costs for tuition.”

The House Committee on Assignments, chaired by House Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington), is charged with making all House committee assignments for the members of the Georgia House of Representatives. 

Under the authority of the House Appropriations Committee, the Appropriations Subcommittee on Higher Education assists with drafting budgets, specifically budgetary items related to higher education. The committee also hears legislation that influences the state revenue or expenditures regarding the University System of Georgia, universities, colleges, post-secondary education and student financial aid. 

Additionally, Rep. Knight has been named as a member of the Banks & Banking, Game, Fish & Parks, Health, Higher Education, Rules, Small Business Development and Ways & Means committees.

Representative David Knight represents the citizens of District 134, which includes portions of Lamar, Monroe and Spalding counties. He was elected to the House of Representatives in 2004 and currently serves as Chairman of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Higher Education. He also serves on the Banks & Banking, Game, Fish & Parks, Health, Higher Education, Rules, Small Business Development and Ways & Means committees.
