ATLANTA – State Representative Derrick McCollum (R-Chestnut Mountain) was sworn into office as a member of the Georgia House of Representatives on Monday, January 9, 2023, marking his first day of the 2023-2024 legislative term. Monday was the first day of the first term of the 157th Legislative Session of the Georgia General Assembly.
“My committee assignments are in line with the priorities of my constituents back home,” said Rep. McCollum. “Transportation is a big issue in my district and county, and I am excited to have been named a leader in the House Transportation Committee. Lake Lanier is also a vital part to my district, and my work on our natural resources committee will allow me be an advocate on maintaining this crucial asset. Finally, as a Marine, I’m honored to work for my brothers and sisters on House Defense and Veterans Affairs Committee.”
In addition to being officially sworn in, the Georgia House of Representatives’ Committee on Assignments named Rep. McCollum as the Secretary of the Transportation Committee. He also serves on the Defense & Veterans Affairs and the Natural Resources & Environment committees.
The House Committee on Assignments, chaired by House Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington), is charged with making all House committee assignments for the members of the Georgia House of Representatives.
Representative Derrick McCollum represents the citizens of District 30, which includes portions of Gwinnett and Hall counties. He was elected to the House of Representatives in 2022 and currently serves as the Secretary of the Transportation Committee. He also serves on the Defense & Veterans Affairs and Natural Resources & Environment committees.
