Rep. Doug Stoner Sworn in, Receives Committee Assignments for the 2023-2024 Legislative Term

ATLANTA – State Representative Doug Stoner(D-Smyrna) was sworn into office as a member of the Georgia House of Representatives on Monday, January 9, 2023, marking his first day of the 2023-2024 legislative term. Monday was the first day of the first term of the 157th Legislative Session of the Georgia General Assembly. Rep. Stoner previously served in the Georgia House of Representatives from 2002 to 2004 and the State Senate from 2004 to 2012.

In addition to being officially sworn in, the Georgia House of Representatives’ Committee on Assignments named Rep. Stoner to the Appropriations Subcommittee on General Government and the Judiciary and Public Health committees.

“I am glad to be back in these halls after almost a decade away,” said Rep. Stoner.  “Serving on these committees gives me the opportunity to continue my work for the citizens of Smyrna and Vinings. By being on the House Appropriations Subcommittee on General Government, I can make sure we invest in the services and infrastructure for the people of this state. In Judiciary, I look forward to ensuring our civil laws reflect our diverse state. Lastly, Public Health is crucial to many folks in my district and across this state. We have cut funding for the last 40 years, and the pandemic has taught us that we need to invest more in the health and well-being of all Georgians.”

The House Committee on Assignments, chaired by House Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington), is charged with making all House committee assignments for the members of the Georgia House of Representatives.
