ATLANTA – State Representative Karla Drenner (D-Avondale Estates) has been selected to participate on a subcommittee of The Council of State Governments’ (CSG) national Healthy States Task Force. Rep. Drenner will serve as a member of the State Health Systems Return on Investment Subcommittee, which will examine and promote best practices for reducing health care costs and increasing efficiencies in state health programs while maintaining quality of care.
“I am honored to be selected to represent our state on the State Health Systems Return on Investment Subcommittee,” said Rep. Drenner. “Health care policy and rising health care costs are relevant and ever-evolving issues that every state across the nation is dealing with. This subcommittee will provide a unique forum for my colleagues and me to share best practices and bring those shared ideas back to our home states.”
“The CSG Healthy States National Task Force will bring together a diverse group of state policymakers to explore ways states can best meet the challenges presented by the current health care system and leverage the revolutionary changes occurring in the health sector,” said CSG Executive Director David Adkins.
Subcommittee members will explore ways to improve outcomes by developing strategies around the growing evidence that states can successfully take assertive steps to address social determinants of health through expanded community partnerships and innovative collaborations that improve health outcomes and reduce costs to states.
The work of the Healthy States Task Force will take place across a two-year timeline surveying best practices and innovative state initiatives during planned task force meetings, some of which will be held at the annual CSG National Conferences.
In addition to the State Health Systems Return on Investment Subcommittee, there are three other subcommittees under the task force: Capacity, Preparedness and Resiliency; What’s Next? Leveraging Innovation; and Interventions to Save Lives.

Representative Karla Drenner represents the citizens of District 85, which includes portions of DeKalb County. She was elected to the House of Representatives in 2000 and currently serves on the Energy, Utilities & Telecommunications, Health & Human Services, Natural Resources & Environment, Rules and Small Business committees.
