ATLANTA – State Representative El-Mahdi Holly (D-Stockbridge) recently introduced House Resolution 541 to recognize May 15, 2021, as Henry County Bicentennial Celebration Day. HR 541 was adopted by the Georgia House of Representatives during the 2021 legislative session on March 31, and the bicentennial celebration will launch with Day of Service opportunities on Saturday, May 15, 2021.
“This bicentennial celebration shows that we have stood the test of time,” said Rep. Holly. “As one of Georgia’s fastest growing counties, Henry County is a continuously growing community in an area with ripe, new opportunities but still with all the homespun wholesomeness and character that has made our residents feel right at home for several generations. I am thrilled to help commemorate this historic milestone for our great county through bipartisan legislation, signed by all the members of our Henry County State House Delegation.”
Named in honor of an American patriot, Patrick Henry, Henry County was created on May 15, 1821, and signed into law by the governor on December 24, 1821. The government of Henry County and its citizens will honor its history and future in a year-long celebration with planned events from the Henry County Board of Commissioners, Henry County Schools, Henry County Public Library System, the Henry County Chamber of Commerce, among a host of others.
“We are so looking forward to hosting events to celebrate Henry County’s cherished past, and our county’s bright future all throughout the year,” remarked Bicentennial Committee Co-Chair Sharon Ponder, Bennett International Group.
