Rep. Erica Thomas to Participate in Edna Umeh Memorial Crosswalk Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Today

ATLANTA – State Representative Erica Thomas (D-Austell) will participate in the ribbon cutting ceremony for the Edna Umeh memorial crosswalk TODAY, Wednesday, August 4, 2021, at 6 p.m. at Lindley Middle School in Mableton.

In Nov. 2017, Ms. Edna Umeh was fatally struck by a vehicle while serving as a crossing guard at Lindley Middle School. Her death prompted a corridor safety audit and installation of safety improvements at this location. This crosswalk will be designated to Ms. Umeh in recognition of her service to the citizens of Cobb County and in memory of her death in the line of duty.

During the 2018 legislative session, Rep. Thomas introduced House Bill 672, or Edna’s Law, to allow law enforcement officers to use speed detection devices while patrolling Georgia public schools. For more information on HB 672, please click here.
