Rep. Farooq Mughal Attends Opening of the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention

ATLANTA – State Representative Farooq Mughal (D-Dacula) recently attended the opening ceremony of the newly established White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention on September 22, 2023, in Washington D.C. Rep. Mughal met with other state legislators and business owners from across the country to show support for this newly established initiative aimed at reducing gun violence in the United States.

“The establishment of The Office of Gun Violence Prevention is a crucial step forward in stopping the epidemic of gun violence,” said Rep. Mughal. “Gun violence is now the number one cause of death for children in the United States. While many are quick to assume that gun violence only impacts students in the classroom or health care professionals in the medical field, most fail to recognize that large and small businesses across the country are also at high risk of being subjected to such violence.”

The White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention, implemented by the Biden-Harris Administration and overseen by Vice President Harris, holds the objective of reducing gun violence in the nation’s communities and expanding upon existing executive and legislative action.

“I met with business owners who were very concerned about their safety, as well as the safety of their customers and their livelihoods, amid the growing threat of mass shootings in our nation,” added Rep. Mughal. “It is my hope that this office will exhaust all efforts to restore safety to our nation’s communities, including the communities in our great state. Gun violence negatively impacts everyone no matter who you are. Therefore, I intend to do all that is necessary to support this initiative and work tirelessly to see that Georgia’s families are protected from this growing epidemic.”

Representative Farooq Mughal represents the citizens of District 105, which includes portions of Gwinnett County. He was elected to the House of Representatives in 2022 and currently serves on the Special Rules, Judiciary Non-Civil and State Planning & Community Affairs committees.
