Rep. Gilliard Receives I AM TOURISM Award for Supporting Savannah’s Tourism Industry

ATLANTA – State Representative Carl Gilliard (D- Garden City) recently received the I AM TOURISM award from the Tourism Leadership Council (TLC) in Savannah. Rep. Gilliard was presented with the award at the TLC’s annual Tourism Awards & Scholarship Dinner on Thursday, March 5, 2020.

“I am grateful for the work that the Tourism Leadership Council is doing to bring people from all over the world to our beautiful city,” said Rep. Gilliard. “Savannah welcomes approximately 16.5 million tourists each year, and I want to commend our citizens and businesses that contribute to our tourism industry year round.”

The I AM TOURISM award embodies the spirit of tourism, integrity, commitment, as well as selflessness, kindness and service to others. Rep. Gilliard is the first legislator to receive the award, and he was commended by TLC President Michael Owens for being the “epitome of drum major for the tourism industry.”

The TCL has over 28,000 employees and serves as Savannah’s lead trade organization in tourism, which contributes approximately $2.9 billion to Savannah’s economy.
