Rep. Gilliard to Host 14th Annual MLK Drum Major Awards

ATLANTA – State Representative Carl Gilliard (D-Savannah) will host the 14th Annual MLK Drum Major Awards on Friday, November 18, 2022, at 6 p.m. at the Georgia Southern University’s Armstrong Center Banquet Hall in Savannah.

Rep. Gilliard seeks to honor individuals for what Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. deemed as the “drum major instinct.” This year’s honorees include Marcus Arbery Sr., father of the late Ahmaud Arbery; Mary Davis, former leader of the SOS Band; Jimmy “Lord” Brown, formerly of the group “Brick;” Tyrone “Hollywood” Brown, formerly of the Harlem Globetrotters; Moncello Stewart, president of the Greater Savannah Black Chamber of Commerce; Mike McCann, community leader; Lenion Brooker and Stephanie Brooker, local business owners; and representatives of the Coalition to Rename Calhoun Square.
