ATLANTA – State Representative Sheri Gilligan (R-Cumming) recently received the 2019 Award for Conservative Excellence by the American Conservative Union Foundation (ACUF). Rep. Gilligan was presented with the award during a ceremony on Friday, October 11, 2019.
“It was an incredible honor to receive this award from the ACUF, and I commend this important foundation for holding Georgia’s elected officials accountable to the constituents they represent,” said Rep. Gilligan. “As we prepare for the 2020 legislative session, I encourage my conservative colleagues at the State Capitol to reflect on our core values and to hold fast to our commitment to producing fiscally, socially and ethically responsible legislation.”
The ACUF honored Rep. Gilligan for maintaining a 90 percent “ranking” for her voting record during the 2019 legislative session. Additionally, she was the only Georgia state legislator to receive this year’s award. The ACUF’s official rankings serve as a retrospective analysis to explain to voters, the media, scholars and activists how consistently lawmakers apply conservative principles when casting votes. The ACUF evaluates over 100,000 bills and ultimately selects around 2,000 bills to produce scorecards for Congress and all 50 states.
Established in 1973, the purpose of the ACUF is to educate voters, office-holders and opinion leaders as to why conservative principles work better to solve the myriad of complex and dynamic problems facing Americans today and to equip them to become better and more effective problem-solvers by implementing conservative values within their communities.
