ATLANTA – The House Republican Caucus elected State Representative Houston Gaines (R-Athens) as the House Majority Caucus Vice-Chairman for the 2023-2024 legislative term during caucus elections on Monday, November 14, 2022.
“I want to thank the House Majority Caucus for selecting me to join its leadership team as we work to expand our political apparatus,” said Majority Caucus Vice-Chairman, Rep. Gaines. “Republicans are making Georgia more affordable in the face of 40-year high inflation, and we’re addressing the rise in crime we’re seeing head on – but we need to communicate what we’re doing more effectively. As the vice chair, we will build a year-round political operation that shares the House Republican message of lower taxes, less government and support of law enforcement to all voters, especially minority communities and young voters.”
In this position, Rep. Gaines assists with member services and incumbent re-election, candidate recruitment and caucus fundraising. He also presides over the Majority Caucus meetings in the absence of the chair.
This will be Rep. Gaines’s third term in the Georgia House of Representatives and his first term as Majority Caucus Vice-Chairman.
Representative Houston Gaines currently represents the citizens of District 117, which includes portions of Barrow, Clarke, Jackson and Oconee counties. He was elected to the House of Representatives in 2018 and currently serves as Vice Chairman of the House Majority Caucus. He also serves as Chairman of the Legislative & Congressional Reapportionment Committee, Vice Chairman of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Higher Education and Secretary of the Health & Human Services Committee. He also serves on the Special Committee on Election Integrity and the Code Revision, Insurance, Juvenile Justice and Ways & Means committees.
