ATLANTA – The Georgia House of Representatives’ Committee on Assignments named State Representative Houston Gaines (R-Athens) as the Vice Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee.
“I am honored to serve as vice chairman of the General Assembly’s chief budget writing committee that annually crafts the state budget,” said Rep. Houston. “As we begin the process of drafting this year’s budget, our focus will be funding public safety, education and infrastructure– continuing to deliver on important needs for our community and state. We’ll do so as we continue to budget conservatively, cut taxes and return money back to the pockets of the hard-working Georgians.”
The House Appropriations Committee is responsible for the writing of the state’s amended and general fiscal year budgets for Georgia’s state agencies and departments. The committee also hears legislation that could impact on the state revenue or expenditures.
Rep. Gaines was also appointed to serve on the Ways & Means, Insurance, Public & Community Health, Urban Affairs, Creative Arts & Entertainment and Ethics committees.
