ATLANTA – State Representative Imani Barnes (D-Tucker) was sworn into office as a member of the Georgia House of Representatives on Monday, January 9, 2023, marking her first day of the 2023-2024 legislative term. Monday was the first day of the first term of the 157th Legislative Session of the Georgia General Assembly.
“I would like to thank Speaker Burns and the House Committee on Assignments for this opportunity,” said Rep. Barnes. “As a lifelong learner and holder of several higher education degrees, I am honored to serve on the Higher Education Committee. Additionally, as a small business owner and entrepreneur that understands the hard work it takes to start and upkeep and small business, I am excited to serve on the Small Business Development Committee to be able to ensure fair and just practices for business owners.”
In addition to being officially sworn in, the Georgia House of Representatives’ Committee on Assignments named Rep. Barnes to the Higher Education, Small Business Development and Technology and Infrastructure committees.
The House Committee on Assignments, chaired by House Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington), is charged with making all House committee assignments for the members of the Georgia House of Representatives.
Representative Imani Barnes represents the citizens of District 86, which includes portions of DeKalb County. She was elected to the House of Representatives in 2022 and currently serves on the Higher Education, Small Business Development and Technology and Infrastructure committees.
