Rep. Jay Powell Named One of Georgia’s Most Influential

ATLANTA – The January 2016 edition of Georgia Trend Magazine recently named State Representative Jay Powell (R-Camilla) to its “100 Most Influential Georgians” list.  The list’s honorees are recognized for making significant contributions to the state that positively impacted Georgia citizens.

“I am humbled to receive this distinction from Georgia Trend Magazine, and I am proud to be listed among such distinguished company,” said Rep. Powell.  “As a state representative, I am a public servant, and to be recognized for positively impacting the lives of Georgians is truly a great honor.”

Georgia Trend recognized Rep. Powell’s work as the new Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, in addition to his work as a member on five other House committees, including Rules and Government Affairs.

The Georgia Trend 100 Most Influential Georgian’s list is released every January and includes prominent Georgians who have made an impact in their field.  The selection process for the year’s most influential individuals in the state is a year-round process for the editorial staff at Georgia Trend Magazine. Individuals are selected exclusively by the Georgia Trend editorial staff based on the staff’s knowledge and observations of the state’s power structure.

Georgia Trend Magazine is Georgia’s only statewide business publication in the market. In a list that has become an annual tradition, naming the “who’s who” of Georgia, the “Most Influential Georgians: Georgia’s Power List” also includes Governor Nathan Deal, Speaker David Ralston, Lieutenant Governor Casey Cagle, Minority Leader Stacey Abrams, Georgia Department of Agriculture Commissioner Gary W. Black, Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed, Department of Labor Commissioner Mark Butler, and Georgian of the Year Attorney General Sam Olens.

Representative Jay Powell represents the citizens of District 171, which includes portions of Colquitt, Decatur, and Mitchell counties. He was elected into the House of Representatives in 2008, and currently serves as the Chairman of the House Ways & Means Committee and Ex-Officio of the Appropriations Committee.  He also serves on the Governmental Affairs, Judiciary, MARTOC, and Rules committees.
