ATLANTA – House Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge) recently appointed State Representative Jesse Petrea (R-Savannah) to the House Study Committee on Saltwater Intrusion into Coastal Aquifers.
“I would like to thank Speaker Ralston for this appointment, and for the opportunity to work on such an important issue to my home in Coastal Georgia,” said Rep. Petrea. “There is nothing more important to the quality of life and development of our district than the security of Georgia’s coastal water supply. I look forward to this opportunity to seek solutions to this very real concern.”
The five member committee, chaired by Rep. Lynn Smith (R-Newnan), is tasked with reviewing the intrusion of saltwater into coastal aquifers in distressed counties under certain qualifications in the Coastal Georgia Regional Water Plan. Based on this review, the committee will help determine the steps needed to ensure the security of Georgia’s coastal drinking water supply for the present and future.
