Rep. Jon Burns Re-Elected House Majority Leader

ATLANTA – The House Republican Caucus unanimously re-elected State Representative Jon Burns (R-Newington) as the House Majority Leader for the 2021-2022 legislative term during caucus elections on Monday, November 9, 2020.

“It is a great privilege to continue serving the House Republican Caucus in this role for the next two years,” said Majority Leader Burns. “The House Republican Caucus is filled with servant leaders who are dedicated to their fellow Georgians and their legislative districts, and they do not flinch when tasked with the responsibility of leading this House. I will continue to utilize the unique talents and perspectives of each caucus member as we move forward with a sound, common-sense conservative agenda. I also pledge to use this role to build pathways for good policy and ensure that our agenda is received favorably in the Senate Chamber and in the governor’s office. Together, as a caucus, we will leave an enduring legacy in Georgia for many years to come.”

In this position, Majority Leader Burns is responsible for leading the House Republican Caucus.

This will be Majority Leader Burns’ ninth term in the Georgia House of Representatives and his sixth year as Majority Leader.

RepresentativeJon Burns represents the citizens of District 159, which includes Screven County and portions of Bulloch and Effingham counties. He was elected to the House of Representatives in 2006 and currently serves as House Majority Leader. He also serves on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Higher Education and the Agriculture & Consumer Affairs, Economic Development & Tourism, Ethics, Game, Fish & Parks and Transportation committees. He also serves as an Ex-Officio member of the House Rules Committee.
