ATLANTA –State Representative Joyce Chandler (R-Grayson) yesterday led the Georgia House of Representatives in honoring Susan McCauley, the niece of civil rights leader Rosa Parks and one of the authors of the book, Our Auntie Rosa.

“It was such an honor to have Susan McCauley here with us yesterday,” said Rep. Chandler. “Ms. Parks’ bold and courageous behavior changed our country and our world. Ms. McCauley has done an extraordinary job of keeping her aunt’s legacy alive by contributing to the book, Our Auntie Rosa, which describes the selfless acts of Rosa Parks.”

McCauley was recognized on the House floor with House Resolution 488. She was accompanied by her four children: Schuyler McCauley Brown, Broderick Ryan Carnes, Whitney Biana Carnes and Sean Douglas Carnes.

The book, Our Auntie Rosa, chronicles the life of Rosa Parks with accounts from the children of Parks’ only sibling, Sylvester McCauley. The book was released on January 22, 2015.

Rosa Parks, who refused to surrender her bus seat to a white passenger on December 1, 1955, helped spur the Montgomery bus boycott and other efforts to end segregation. Parks received numerous awards including more than two hundred honorary doctorates, the Medal of Freedom, and the Congressional Gold Medal. In 1999, Time magazine named Rosa Parks on its list of “The Twenty Most Influential People of the Twentieth Century.”
