ATLANTA –State Representative Katie Dempsey (R-Rome) recently received the “Friends of Children Award” from the Georgia Professional Human Services Association (GPHSA).
“I am honored to receive this award from the Georgia Professional Human Services Association,” said Rep. Dempsey. “As a parent, grandmother, state representative, and Chairman of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Human Resources, I am committed to actively working to support initiatives that help ensure all children throughout the state receive the care and protection they deserve.”
Rep. Dempsey was chosen to receive the Friends of Children Award for her work in her community and in the General Assembly on behalf of children. Prior recipients of the award include Representative Judy Manning, Senator Jack Hill, and Judge Britt Hammond.
GPHSA, formerly known as the Georgia County Welfare Association (GCWA), is a professional association comprised of 1100 persons across Georgia who primarily work in the Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS). GPHSA works to improve human services by promoting efficiency, integrity, providing training and networking, and advocacy for families and children.

Representative Katie Dempsey represents the citizens of District 13, which includes portions of Floyd County. She was elected into the House of Representatives in 2006, and currently serves as the Chair of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Human Resources.
