ATLANTA – State Representative Dar’shun Kendrick (D-Lithonia) recently worked with the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners to pass a local ordinance which will ease the county’s business licensing requirements for those who rent a private residence and operate a wholly online business from such residence.
“I am excited that the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners voted on February 22 to allow completely online businesses that are run from home to obtain a business license in DeKalb County without the signature of the landlord,” said Rep. Kendrick. “This ordinance will allow many who are hurting from this pandemic to become full business owners, while complying with the law and bringing in significantly more business tax revenue for the county. I am pleased by the cooperation of our commissioners who seek to make sure that we can keep home businesses viable in DeKalb County, while helping our county revenue at the same time. I want to specifically thank Commissioner Larry Johnson for carrying and advocating for this importance piece of local legislation. His leadership will help thousands of business owners in DeKalb County.”
Under the new DeKalb County ordinance, businesses or practitioners that pay an occupation tax or regulatory fee for operating out of a leased home are not required to provide a signature from the owner of the home to obtain a home occupational license. This local ordinance was mirrored after House Bill 467, which was recently introduced by Rep. Kendrick.
