ATLANTA – State Representative Lisa Campbell (D-Kennesaw), in partnership with the Georgia Ovarian Cancer Alliance (GOCA), recently held a press conference at the Georgia State Capitol to increase awareness of ovarian cancer, recognize September 16, 2026, as Ovarian Cancer Awareness Day in Georgia and advocate for a cure. During the press conference, GOCA shared information, stories of survivorship and discussed expanding resources to find a cure for ovarian cancer.
“Raising awareness of ovarian cancer is critical to ensuring that Georgians understand the importance of early detection, know the signs and symptoms and have access to the resources and support they need,” said Rep. Campbell. “By recognizing September 16, 2026, as National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Day, we have an opportunity to shine a light on this disease, honor the survivors and families and remember those we have lost. This also gives us an important platform to continue advocating for a cure to this terrible disease. I was honored to stand with the Georgia Ovarian Cancer Alliance as we work to raise awareness and support the fight against ovarian cancer.”
Rep. Campbell was joined at the State Capitol by Kimberly Emory, Interim Executive Director of GOCA; the GOCA Board of Directors, including Ray Muhammad, Interim Board President; Carolyn Hughes, Interim Board Vice-President; Sheena Virji, Interim Board Secretary; Chasity Mathis, ovarian cancer survivor and Treasurer; LaTanya Ingram, survivor and Board Member; Kianta Key, Board Member; Savannah Ray-Loret, Board Member; Sharon Sigler, survivor and Board Member; Chief AFRD Rod Smith, Board Member; and Tasha Walker, Board Member. Rep. Campbell was also joined by ovarian cancer doctors and healthcare providers from across the state, ovarian cancer survivors and Georgia families to help raise awareness of the disease, highlight the impact it has on Georgians and advocate for a cure.
During the 2026 legislative session, Rep. Campbell sponsored House Resolution 1904, which designates September 16, 2026, as Georgia Ovarian Cancer Awareness Day.
