“The listening session with the agencies that are part of DNR was a very effective way for legislators of the appropriate House and Senate committees to get briefed on the work being done by these agencies,” said Rep. Smith.  “As a result, we will go into the 2016 legislative session with a better idea of legislative issues that may come up next session.”

Legislators heard updates from DNR’s six operating divisions, which include: Coastal Resources Division; Environmental Protection Division; Historic Preservation Division; Law Enforcement Division; Parks, Recreation & Historic Sites Division and Wildlife Resources Division.  In addition, legislators heard presentations on licensing restructuring initiatives and boating registration changes, film legislation, and the DNR Foundation.

The Department of Natural Resources has statewide responsibilities for the management and conservation of Georgia’s natural and cultural resources. Most of this work is conducted by DNR’s six operating divisions. The Board of Natural Resources, which is appointed by the Governor, oversees rulemaking for the agency.
