Rep. Mark Williams Named Chief Deputy Whip

ATLANTA – During the first week of the 2009 legislative session Representative Mark Williams (R – Jesup) was selected to serve as Chief Deputy Whip in the Georgia House of Representatives.

House Majority Whip Jan Jones (R-Milton) announced his appointment to serve in this coveted role.

As one of only 10 Deputy Whips in the 180-seat House, Rep. Williams will lead the team that is responsible for helping to shepherd bills through the legislative process.

“I am honored to have been considered and chosen for this job,” said Rep. Williams. “I look forward to working with our Majority Whip Jan Jones and the entire caucus during these challenging times.”

This group of representatives is responsible for analyzing and tracking legislation. Because of these responsibilities, this group also serves as a resource for representatives with questions about legislation.

“In a short period of time Rep. Williams has demonstrated genuine and effective leadership for his district,” said Rep. Jones. “He will be an excellent voice for our caucus in communicating the details of legislation to other representatives.”
