Rep. Mesha Mainor to Hold Press Conference on Stalled CSX Trains Blocking Access to Westside Communities

ATLANTA – State Representative Mesha Mainor (D-Atlanta) will hold a press conference on trains being stalled on CSX tracks in Westside Atlanta neighborhoods on Thursday, April 6, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. on the south side of the CSX railroad crossing on Chappell Road NW (north of MLK Jr. Drive and near Ezra Church Dr. NW).

During the press conference, Rep. Mainor will discuss reports of CSX trains being stalled in this Westside neighborhood, which is home to mostly minority and low-income Georgians. Constituents have reported crawling under and over stalled trains to get to the nearby MARTA bus stop on their work commute. Rep. Mainor will also highlight incidents of senior citizens directing traffic, the impact this blocked crossing has on 911 response time, disruption to individuals that use handicap accessible mobile devices in the neighborhood, as well as the potential environmental hazards of the tracks in this area. Rep. Mainor will also address the lack of contact information from CSX to report and resolve trains that are stalled for long durations of time.

Rep. Mainor has invited several elected officials, local residents and public safety officials to participate in this press conference.
