Rep. Mesha Mainor to Participate in Juneteenth Events

ATLANTA – State Representative Mesha Mainor (D-Atlanta) will participate in two Juneteenth events this weekend. The event schedule is as follows:

  • Atlanta’s Juneteenth Parade and Music Festival – Saturday, June 17, 2023, at 12 p.m. starting at Liberty Plaza in Atlanta; the parade will conclude at Centennial Olympic Park; the parade map may be found online here.
  • The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ Juneteenth Family History event – Saturday, June 17, 2023, from 10:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Oakland Cemetery in Atlanta.

Rep. Mainor will serve as a member of the marshal’s court for Atlanta’s Juneteenth Parade and Music Festival. This year’s grand marshal will be Mr. Lou Gossett Jr.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will celebrate with Juneteenth Family History events throughout Georgia. During the 2023 legislative session, Rep. Mainor hosted church leader M. Andrew Galt IV as the Chaplain of the Day. Since then, Rep. Mainor has partnered with the church to promote ministry activities, including the operations of www.FamilySearch.org. Rep. Mainor has also coordinated efforts with the church and the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus to improve genealogy and ancestry opportunities for minority communities.

Rep. Mainor seeks to make her constituents aware of the church’s many Juneteenth Family History celebrations across Georgia. Family history experts will be available to assist residents at each event. The event schedule for the metro area is as follows:

  • Lawrenceville Ebony United – Saturday, June 17, 2023, from 12 – 6 p.m. at Rhodes Jordan Park in Lawrenceville;
