ATLANTA – State Representative Mike Glanton (D-Jonesboro) today was appointed to serve on the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Overview Committee (MARTOC). This committee operates as a joint state House and Senate committee and is responsible for providing oversight of the Metro Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) and its annual budget.
“It is an honor to be appointed by Governor Deal to serve on the MARTOC Overview Committee,” said Rep. Glanton. “Since the expansion of MARTA was implemented in Clayton County, the residents have been optimistic about its incoming service. I am looking forward to serving on this committee to ensure that MARTA continues to grow in the Metro-Atlanta area.”
Rep. Glanton was a leader in the initiative to expand the transit system to Clayton County. MARTA bus services are scheduled to begin on Saturday, March 21, 2015, after voters approved the measure in a November 2014 referendum.
Representative Mike Glanton represents the citizens of District 75, which includes portions of Clayton County. He was first elected into the House of Representatives in 2006, and was re-elected in 2012. He currently serves on the Appropriations, Defense & Veterans Affairs, Education, MARTOC, and Public Safety and Homeland Security committees.
