Rep. Morgan Encourages Participation in Digital Learning Day

ATLANTA – State Representative Alisha Thomas Morgan (D-Austell) is encouraging all local teachers and principals to participate in Digital Learning Day. Scheduled for today, Wednesday, February 5, 2014, Digital Learning Day is a national event to celebrate the effective use of technology in schools.

“Digital learning is a key component in shaping how we meet the needs of students now and in the future,” said Rep. Morgan. “This generation of students thrives on technology. Digital learning opens up the world to students to learn anywhere anytime, puts them in the driver’s seat of their own education, creates more personalized learning opportunities, and gives teachers more immediate feedback. I am excited to see the innovative ways educators are using technology and digital learning to help students reach their greatest potential.”

As part of digital learning day, many classrooms across the nation will participate in a live virtual conference, which will be broadcast from the Library of Congress. The conference will feature a “Power Panel” moderated by PBS NewsHour’s Judy Woodruff. The webcast will also include guest appearances and discussion from dignitaries of the FCC, U.S. Department of Education, and the U.S. Congress. Webcast topics will be the “Federal Policy Landscape and Special Guests” at 11:00 a.m., “Digital Learning: The Journey So Far” at 11:35 a.m., and “Make a Difference with Digital Learning” at 2:30 p.m. Live chats with experts, student debates, interactive polls, informational videos, teacher lesson plans and classroom games will also be available throughout the conference. Teachers who participate in the Digital Learning Day activities are encouraged to record their plans here. They can also take the pledge to support the effective use of technology here.
