ATLANTA – State Representatives Bruce Broadrick (R-Dalton) and Tom Dickson (R-Cohutta) welcomed firefighters from the City of Dalton Fire Department Honor Guard to the State Capitol on Tuesday, February 4, 2014. The firefighters visited the State Capitol as part of Firefighters Recognition Day.

“We were honored to welcome our local firefighters to the State Capitol,” said Rep. Broadrick. “These brave men and women work long hours and oftentimes risk their lives to protect the citizens of Dalton.”

Firefighter Recognition Day was established by a proclamation signed by Governor Nathan Deal and is held to pay tribute to firefighters and fire departments in Georgia. The day included recognition ceremonies held at the State Capitol, a tour of the Grady Burn Center and an 8th annual appreciation dinner.

“The Honor Guard has been a great addition to our agency,” said Dalton Fire Chief, Bruce Satterfield. “They are very professional and dedicated to each and every event they attend. It’s an honor to have these dedicated personnel to represent our agency in the public.”

The Dalton Fire Department Honor Guard began their training in February 2012. The initial training was provided by David Bradley of the Forsyth County Fire Department and Honor Guard; Eddie Robinson of the Cherokee County Fire Department and Honor Guard; and Danny Lee of the Rome Fire Department and Honor Guard. The Honor Guard has assisted at retiree funerals in Georgia and Alabama, for both retired firefighters and police officers. They have also assisted with numerous public events around Dalton such as Veterans Memorial Day; Northwest High School Football Game; 2013 Fire Safety Symposium in Forsyth, Georgia; numerous color presentations for the Georgia Rampage indoor football games; and Shaw Industries 9-11 recognitions.
