Rep. Morgan to Stand with Educators and Parents, Affirms Support for Common Core

ATLANTA – State Representative Alisha Thomas Morgan (D-Austell) announced today her plan to introduce legislation which would affirm the state’s adoption of the Common Core Standards for Georgia schools.

“Best practice research states that Common Core Georgia Performance Standards build on the previous Georgia Performance Standards and improves them to ensure that all Georgia children will graduate from high school ready for college and/or career,” said Rep. Morgan. “I am a proud mother of a first-grader in Cobb County Public Schools, and I believe that I only get one shot to secure a world-class education for my daughter as well as the 1.6 million students in Georgia. In solidarity with supporters of Common Core across the state, including the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, Georgia Association of Educators, and countless other education, business and civic organizations. I believe that staying-the-course with the higher standards is the right thing to do for Georgia and most importantly, for our students and parents.”

Georgia has adopted a set of core standards for kindergarten through high school in English language arts, mathematics, and grades 6-12 literacy in science, history/social studies, and technical subjects. The Common Core Georgia Performance Standards provide a framework designed to prepare students for success in college and/or the workplace.

Rep. Morgan will be available for interviews regarding this legislation by request. To arrange an interview, please contact Michael J. Brewer, (202) 520-0586, or Michael@AlishaMorgan.com
