ATLANTA – State Representative Elena Parent (D-Brookhaven) has been appointed to the Georgia Public Safety Commission.
“I can’t think of any issue more important to Georgia citizens than public safety,” said Rep. Parent. “I look forward to working with the chairman and other commission members to improve public safety in our great state.”
The Georgia Public Safety Commission is composed of 9 members. Each member of the commission is a resident to the state of Georgia, and may only serve up to two consecutive five-year terms.
The Georgia Public Safety Commission is a non-partisan professional association that monitors legislative issues that impact the community. It is not an investigative agency.
The commission was founded on the belief that a close relationship between public safety departments and the communities they serve is an essential part of a responsive and proactive government. With that in mind, the Commission was established as a means of enhancing public safety-community relations and communications.
The mission of the Georgia Public Safety Commission is to recommend resources, legislative analysis, expert testimony, state and local government operations, emergency management procedures and public safety practices and policies. To accomplish this mission, it develops and establishes professional standards of performance and integrity for Public Safety and Emergency Management Professionals and Personnel, presents a forum for discussion of common problems and current court decisions, gathers and disseminates information regarding improved administrative and technical practices, assists law enforcement agencies in the founding and continued development of public safety and emergency management procedures, and fosters law enforcement cooperation and exchange of information among Public Safety personnel and citizens.
Representative Elena Parent represents the citizens of District 81, which includes portions of DeKalb County. She was elected into the House of Representatives in 2010, and currently serves on the Children and Youth, Defense and Veteran Affairs, and Code Revision committees.
