Rep. Pat Gardner to Honor Grady High School Debate Team at State Capitol

ATLANTA – State Representative Pat Gardner (D-Atlanta) will honor the Grady High School Jesters speech and debate team at the Georgia State Capitol for winning their seventh straight championship title. Rep. Gardner will honor the team in a Morning Order during legislative day 39 of the 2016 session of the House of Representatives on Tuesday, March 22.

“These students have worked very hard to hone their speech and debate skills, and I am so pleased to have the chance to honor and congratulate them before my colleagues in the House,” said Rep. Gardner. “Organizations such as a debate offer students the opportunity to gain invaluable experience in public speaking and presentation, and it is apparent that these students have mastered the art with their repeated awards and accolades.”

The Grady High School Jesters speech and debate team competed in the Georgia Forensics Coaches Association Speech and Debate Varsity Championships on March 4-5 where they claimed their seventh straight championship title as the Speech, Debate and Overall Sweepstakes Winner. The Jesters also received the President’s Cup for Excellence in Speech and Debate, as well as the Ted Wolfe Award for qualifying the most entries for schools of 1,000-1,500 students with participants in 11 categories ranging from policy and Congressional debate, to extemporaneous and informative speaking.

Representative Pat Gardner represents the citizens of District 57, which includes portions of Fulton County in the City of Atlanta. She was elected into the House of Representatives in 2000, and currently serves on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Health and the Ethics, Higher Education, Natural Resources & Environment, and Transportation Committees.
