ATLANTA – State Representative Pedro Marin (D-Duluth) recently introduced House Bill 738, legislation which would authorize the production, manufacturing and dispensing of marijuana to treat certain medical conditions in Georgia.
“Currently, Georgia law only provides for the prescription of a limited low THC oil for Georgians with severe medical conditions,” said Rep. Marin. “Legalizing medical marijuana, not just low THC oil, would benefit and help relieve pain that people living with serious medical conditions experience every day.”
House Bill 738 would legalize all parts of a cannabis plant to be used to treat various medical conditions. Specifically, HB 738 would allow for patients with the following medical conditions to be prescribed medical marijuana: cancer, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, seizure disorders related to epilepsy or head injuries, multiple sclerosis, Crohn’s disease; mitochondrial disease, Parkinson’s disease, sickle cell disease, sever Tourette’s syndrome, autism spectrum disorder, epidermolysis bullosa, Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, acquired immune deficiency syndrome, peripheral neuropathy, chronic pain, post-traumatic stress disorder, ulcerative colitis, systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), discoid cutaneous lupus, glaucoma, hepatitis C, fibromyalgia, severe arthritis, cerebral palsy, anorexia, cachexia and Huntington’s disease.
Additionally, Rep. Marin also announced that he plans to hold meetings and forums throughout this year to discuss his legislation with supporters, as well as constituents who may have questions or concerns with the legislation.
