Rep. Penny Houston Commends Georgia Jobs and Infrastructure Committees, Makes Constituents Aware of State Recovery Funding

ATLANTA – State Representative Penny Houston (R-Nashville) commends Governor Brian Kemp for creating the Georgia Jobs and Infrastructure Committees to advise on spending the federal coronavirus relief funds that were allocated to Georgia through the American Rescue Plan. Georgia industries impacted by COVID-19 will be able to apply for this state recovery funding during the month of August.

“The Georgia Jobs and Infrastructure Committees will help put crucial recovery funds in the hands of real Georgians and their businesses,” said Rep. Houston. “This pandemic has devastated some industries in rural Georgia, and Governor Kemp and the leaders on these committees will ensure that these funds are spent wisely and fairly. Berrien, Cook and Tift counties will benefit greatly from these funds, so I encourage local businesses impacted by the pandemic to consider submitting an application this August.”

The Economic Impact Committee, Broadband Infrastructure Committee and Water and Sewer Infrastructure Committee will advise Gov. Kemp on how to spend $4.8 billion in federal coronavirus relief aid allotted to Georgia. The members of these committees will review applications for grant funds that would offset the negative economic impacts of the pandemic, expand high-speed internet access, as well as rehabilitate and expand water and sewer infrastructure. State and local governments, businesses and nonprofit groups can all apply.

According to the governor’s office, these committees will accept applications during the month of August and will announce grants during the week of October 18, 2021. These dates are subject to change as guidance from the U.S. Department of the Treasury continues to evolve.
