Rep. Rhonda Taylor Commends Stonecrest Reproductive Rights Resolution

ATLANTA – State Representative Rhonda Taylor (D-Conyers) commends the Stonecrest City Council for unanimously approving a local resolution to support women’s reproductive rights during its council meeting earlier this week. Rep. Taylor serves on the Georgia House Democratic Caucus Subcommittee on Women’s Reproductive Rights and requested that this city council create and adopt this local resolution.

“It is a bold and admirable pledge to protect Stonecrest residents from any violation of their human rights,” said Rep. Taylor. “I am super grateful for the City of Stonecrest’s support in fighting for women’s rights and for upholding the right to privacy. Georgia’s ‘heartbeat’ bill is horrific, and it attempts to strip the decision making from women, which is not only insulting but outright dehumanizing. Women in Georgia will continue to fight, and we will not be silenced into accepting this intrusion.”

The Stonecrest City Council’s resolution also supports the protection of individuals involved in the abortion or abortion-related process from criminal penalties. Stonecrest joins Atlanta and other cities around the state in passing a resolution that supports the reproductive rights of women.

“The City of Stonecrest proudly honors the personal health care choices of women,” said Stonecrest Mayor Jazzmin Cobble. “Georgia passed one of the strictest abortion bills in the nation, and, unfortunately, this resolution does not overturn that law. However, Stonecrest officials have a responsibility to protect the individuals in our city from any violation of their human rights. In addition, health care providers should not be penalized for providing comprehensive care to their patients.”

Members of the Georgia House Democratic Caucus Subcommittee on Women’s Reproductive Rights have urged local governing authorities and law enforcement agencies within their House districts to support similar measures for their constituents.

Representative Rhonda Taylor represents the citizens of District 91, which includes portions of DeKalb and Rockdale counties. She was elected to the House of Representatives in 2020 and currently serves on the Juvenile Justice, Budget and Fiscal Affairs Oversight and Special Rules committees.
