Rep. Rob Clifton Appointed Chairman of House Blue-Ribbon Study Committee on the Impact of Online Platforms on Georgia Youth

ATLANTA – State Representative Rob Clifton (R-Evans) was appointed by House Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington) to serve as the chairman of the House Blue-Ribbon Study Committee on the Impact of Online Platforms on Georgia Youth.

“I am honored to serve as chairman of this important study committee during my first term as a member of the Georgia House of Representatives, and I appreciate Speaker Burns for entrusting me to lead this important work,” said Rep. Clifton. “As a father, this topic is also deeply significant to me as we have seen how online platforms can affect a minor’s mental health and well-being, as well as pose significant safety and privacy risks. I look forward to holding meetings throughout this interim to study ways in which we can better safeguard and protect Georgia’s youth from the harmful effects caused by online platforms.”

The House Blue-Ribbon Study Committee on the Impact of Online Platforms on Georgia Youth will evaluate the effects of online platforms on minors to strengthen safety protections, address mental health concerns and promote age-appropriate access to online content.

Speaker Burns also appointed the following study committee members: Speaker Pro Tem Jan Jones (R-Milton), State Representatives Todd Jones (R-South Forsyth), Johnny Chastain (R-Blue Ridge), Beth Camp (R-Concord), Brad Thomas (R-Holly Springs), Anne Allen Westbrook (D-Savannah), Lydia Glaize (D-Fairburn), Debra Bazemore (D-South Fulton), Tangie Herring (D-Macon) and Shawn Conroy, Consumer Protection Division, Georgia Attorney General’s Office.
