Rep. Rob Leverett Named Chief Deputy Whip of House Republican Caucus, Chairman of House Committee

ATLANTA – State Representative Rob Leverett (R-Elberton) was recently appointed by Georgia House Majority Caucus Whip James Burchett (R-Waycross) to serve as the Chief Deputy Whip for the 2023-2024 legislative term.

“I want to thank Majority Whip Burchett for allowing me the honor of continuing to serve my Republican colleagues in this key position,” said Rep. Leverett. “I am ready to get to work with Whip Burchett and the Whip Team to advance conservative policies for the benefit of the citizens of House District 123 and all of Georgia. Voters continue to trust the House Republican Caucus to lead under the Gold Dome and bring sound public policy across the finish line. With this goal in mind, I look forward to continuing to work with House leadership and my colleagues to move this state forward.”

Members of the majority whip team and the chief deputy, in particular, play a critical role by monitoring legislation as it moves through both chambers of the Georgia General Assembly and by helping members of the majority caucus to better understand the details of bills and resolutions.

Whip Burchett also appointed the following members to the Majority Caucus Whip Team: State Representatives Victor Anderson (R-Cornelia), Bethany Ballard (R-Warner Robins), Brent Cox (R-Dawsonville), Clint Crowe (R-Jackson), Joseph Gullett (R-Dallas), Leesa Hagan (R-Lyons), Derrick McCollum (R-Chestnut Mountain), Matt Reeves (R-Duluth), Devan Seabaugh (R-Marietta) and Bill Yearta (R-Sylvester).

In addition to being named as the Chief Deputy Whip for the House Majority Caucus, Rep. Leverett was recently named as the chairman of the House Reapportionment and Redistricting Committee, which is responsible for drawing the boundaries of Georgia’s State House, State Senate, the Georgia Public Service Commission and U.S. House districts following the decennial U.S. Census.

“I want to thank Speaker Jon Burns and the members of the House Committee on Assignments for the confidence they have shown in me with this appointment,” added Rep. Leverett. “I am both gratified and humbled by this honor and look forward to serving in a manner that will make both Speaker Burns and the citizens of House District 123 proud to have me in this position.”

The House Committee on Assignments, chaired by House Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington), is charged with making all House committee assignments for the members of the Georgia House of Representatives.

Representative Rob Leverett represents the citizens of District 123, which includes Elbert, Lincoln and Wilkes counties, as well as portions of Columbia and Madison counties. He was elected to the House of Representatives in 2020 and currently serves as Chief Deputy Whip of the House Majority Caucus. He is also the Chairman of the Reapportionment and Redistricting Committee and Secretary of the Judiciary Committee. He also serves on the Agriculture & Consumer Affairs, Governmental Affairs, Judiciary Non-Civil and Juvenile Justice committees.
