Rep. Sandra Scott to Giveaway $1,000 Donation of Free Feminine Hygiene Products to Clayton Co. Students

ATLANTA – State Representative Sandra Scott (D-Rex) was recently selected by the National Foundation for Women Legislators (NFWL) to donate $1,000 worth of feminine hygiene products to students in Clayton County. In honor of Period Poverty Awareness Week, Rep. Scott will distribute the period products at Morrow Middle School on Monday, May 22, 2023, from 3:30 – 4 p.m. and at Adamson Middle School on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, from 3:30 – 4 p.m.

“Period poverty is a widespread issue that affects millions of individuals across the country, including Georgia’s female students,” said Rep. Scott. “Lack of access to menstrual products and hygiene education can lead to missed school and work, social isolation and other adverse outcomes. I want to thank the NFWL for their commitment to raising awareness about period poverty and for promoting equitable access to menstrual products for all individuals.”

Rep. Scott was chosen as part of a contest hosted by the NFWL in their partnership with Kimberly-Clark/U by Kotex® brand. The company will provide the donations directly to Rep. Scott. The contest aims to raise awareness about period poverty and to support innovative solutions to address this issue. Rep. Scott has also been be featured on NFWL’s social media channels throughout May leading up to Period Poverty Awareness Week, which will take place from May 22-28.

“We are thrilled with the incredible response we received for the ‘Ending Period Poverty with NFWL’ contest,” said Jody Thomas, executive director of NFWL. “The winning projects demonstrated a keen understanding of the challenges faced by individuals experiencing period poverty and provided innovative and actionable solutions to address this issue. We are excited to honor the winners and look forward to seeing their ideas in action.”
