ATLANTA – State Representative Kim Schofield (D-Atlanta) recently worked with other state leaders to secure a new lactation pod, made by Mamava, to provide mothers with a private and sanitary space to nurse or pump at the Georgia State Capitol.
“I believe the General Assembly’s staff and visitors who are mothers have the right to express their milk or breastfeed in any public or private location where they are legally allowed to be, especially on Capitol Hill,” said Rep. Schofield. “This lactation pod will offer a sanitary, enclosed space so that working or visiting mothers do not have to resort to using a bathroom, private office or a car in order to privately pump or breastfeed.”
Rep. Schofield held several meetings with other state leaders to secure funding in the Fiscal Year 2020 state budget for a lactation pod, as opposed to a designated room, which would not properly ensure privacy. Starting in October, the new lactation pod will be located in the Coverdell Legislative Office Building where it will be available for employees or visiting mothers to use. Access to the pod will be controlled by the Smart Access with Mamava App.
Mamava is a female-owned company headquartered in Vermont that manufactures all of its lactation pods in America.
Representative Kim Schofield represents the citizens of District 60, which includes portions of Clayton and Fulton counties. She was elected to the House of Representatives in 2017 and currently serves on the Health & Human Services, Interstate Cooperation and Small Business Development committees.
