Rep. Scott to Deliver Feminine Hygiene Products to Schools in District 76

ATLANTA – State Representative Sandra Scott (D-Rex) will deliver feminine hygiene products to schools located in House District 76 on Tuesday, August 20, 2019. During the month of July, Rep. Scott organized a drive to collect donations from individuals and organizations in Clayton and Henry counties in order to provide these products to local schools.

“In my 58 years of living, I would not have imagined that this would be a need, and I was dumbfounded during the 2019 legislative session when legislators were asked to provide feminine hygiene products to young ladies in correctional facilities across Georgia,” said Rep. Scott. “Learning about this incredible need across our state made me realize that these products should also be provided to females at least once a month in our Clayton and Henry County schools. I was truly shocked to learn that we have a large number of female students that stay home and miss their classes because they do not have access or cannot afford to purchase feminine hygiene products.”

Rep. Scott’s donations will help schools in Clayton and Henry counties while they apply for grants to receive state funding to purchase feminine hygiene products. This state funding was approved during the 2019 legislative session and allots $1 million in the Fiscal Year 2020 budget for grants to schools to provide feminine hygiene products for low-income students.

Rep. Scott will donate the collected feminine hygiene products to the following schools: Morrow High School, Stockbridge High School, M.E. Stilwell School of the Arts, Austin Road Middle School, Rex Mill Middle School, Adamson Middle School, Morrow Middle School, Fairview Elementary School, East Clayton Elementary School, Anderson Elementary School, Roberta T. Smith Elementary School and Thurgood Marshall Elementary School.

The feminine hygiene products were donated by following individuals, churches and organizations: Clayton State University Nursing Department; Mrs. Comfort Obi and Mrs. Cordelia Ofoegbu with Family Bridge Healthcare Services; Sr. Pastor T. Lynn Matthews and the congregation of New Testament Gospel Worldwide Ministries; Pastor Arthur Powell and the congregation of Travelers Rest Baptist Church; Sister Elicia Collins; Sister McCrary and Sister Wendy Durham.

Representative Sandra Scott represents the citizens of District 76, which includes portions of Clayton and Henry counties. She was first elected to the House Representatives in 2010 and currently serves on the Defense & Veterans Affairs, Human Relations & Aging, Legislative & Congressional Reapportionment, Science and Technology and Special Rules committees.
