Rep. Shaw Blackmon Named Chairman of the House Ways & Means Committee

ATLANTA – The Georgia House of Representatives’ Committee on Assignments named State Representative Shaw Blackmon (R-Bonaire) as the Chairman of the House Ways & Means Committee.

“I look forward to serving as Chairman of the House Ways & Means Committee for another legislative term,” said Rep. Blackmon. “I am excited to assist Speaker Jon Burns and other leaders in the General Assembly to continue to build upon our focus on policies that keep Georgia moving forward.”

The House Committee on Assignments, chaired by House Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington), is charged with making all House committee assignments for the members of the Georgia House of Representatives. 

The Ways & Means Committee is chief tax-writing committee in the House of Representatives. The Committee derives a large share of its jurisdiction from the state Constitution which declares, “All Bills for raising Revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives.

Representative Shaw Blackmon represents the citizens of District 146, which includes portions of Houston County. He was elected to the House of Representatives in 2015 and currently serves as the Chairman of the Ways & Means Committee.
