Rep. Sheila Jones Introduces Legislation to Honor Women in Male-Dominated Industries

ATLANTA – State Representative Sheila Jones (D-Atlanta) recently introduced House Resolutions 978 and 1031 to recognize women veterans and women golfers in Georgia, respectively. These privileged resolutions were adopted by the Georgia House of Representatives during the 2022 legislative session.

“These resolutions seek to highlight the accomplishments of women in two traditionally male-dominated industries,” said Rep. Jones. “Women have historically served in noncombat capacities in various branches of the military, but they were not recognized as official military members. Additionally, many talented and visionary women and organizations have inspired other women to play golf, which has made a huge economic impact on the state’s business and golf communities. These accomplishments should be celebrated, and I am honored to have introduced these privileged resolutions this last session.”

HR 978 recognizes June 12, 2022, as Women Veterans Day in Georgia in honor of nearly 93,000 women veterans who serve in all branches of the U.S. military.

HR 1031 recognizes June 6, 2022, as Women’s Golf Day in Georgia to acknowledge the contribution of women to the sport. This resolution also emphasizes the economic impact and the health benefits of playing golf. HR 1031 specifically commends the work of several women golfers, including several women from Georgia.
