Rep. Stan Gunter Named Chairman of House Blue-Ribbon Study Committee on Criminal Post-Conviction Litigation

ATLANTA – State Representative Stan Gunter (R-Blairsville), chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, was appointed by House Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington) to serve as the chairman of the House Blue-Ribbon Study Committee on Criminal Post-Conviction Litigation.

“Every Georgian deserves a justice system that is fair and efficient, and it is important that we take our time to carefully examine ways to ensure that the system works in the best interest of all Georgians,” said Chairman Gunter. “The current system for post-conviction litigation deserves an in-depth and thorough review, and our discussions this year will help guide any future legislative action by the General Assembly in partnership with our judicial branch. I want to thank Speaker Burns for creating this study committee and for entrusting me to lead this important work during the months ahead.”

The House Blue-Ribbon Study Committee on Criminal Post-Conviction Litigation will examine Georgia’s post-conviction legal framework to protect constitutional rights, reduce delays and improve the efficiency of the state’s justice system.
